Now that you have been matched with a Peace Corps volunteer in Senegal, here are some tips and resources to help you and your volunteer make the best out of this unique program:

  1. Make your expectations clear the first time you and the volunteer correspond. Talk about how you want to correspond, how often, and what topics interest your class the most.
  2.  If you don’t have time to write a detailed response, please send a short email telling your volunteer that your class still enjoys hearing about Senegal, since some volunteers get discouraged if their match takes a long time to write back.
  3. Consult the Correspondence Match Handbook for Educators  for good tips including FAQs, curriculum integration, and sample letters.
  4. Any educator (even in a non-traditional setting, such as a Girl Scout Troop leader or Sunday school teacher) can sign up for the program here.
  5. Use these short, informational pages written at the elementary school level to teach your class about Senegalese culture.
