CED Agribusiness Sector
Peace Corps Senegal is a major partner with USAID’s food security program through our Urban and Rural Agriculture and Agro Forestry sectors. These programs seek to develop skills and introduce new technologies that augment the production capacity of local farmers. While those sectors work on the production side of farming, the Community Economic Development program seeks to help with market linkages, business skill trainings and working with food transformation groups to improve food security.
Agribusiness volunteers typically live in a larger town and work primarily with food transformers. Volunteers will conduct training's on various business skills and product packaging. If need be, the volunteer will help professionalize the business by helping the group register with related government agencies and obtain proper certifications for their food products. Agribusiness volunteers will also coordinate with surrounding agricultural volunteers on developing business skill training's for farmers and introducing food producers with transformers.
